38 kg of smuggled narcotics confiscated in Samarkand — SSS

As part of efforts to combat the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, a joint operational event conducted by officers of the Border Troops of the State Security Service and the department for Samarkand region successfully intercepted a large batch of narcotics smuggled from a neighboring country.

Specifically, 3 citizens residing in Urgut district, born in 1989 and 1992, who had been under prior surveillance, traveled via detour routes to Panjakent district of the Republic of Tajikistan. They acquired 14 kg 766 gr of pure opium and 14 kg 958 gr of hashish from drug traffickers, and were apprehended with material evidence while illegally crossing the Uzbek-Tajik state border back into the territory of Uzbekistan.

Currently, criminal cases have been initiated against the offenders under Article 246, Part 2 and Article 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code, and a measure of restraint in the form of "detention" has been applied.

In another case, during operational-search activities conducted jointly by officers of the State Security Service and internal affairs bodies, a private car garage located in the "Orzu" mahalla of Samarkand city was inspected in the presence of attesting witnesses.

As a result, it was discovered that 9 kg 40 gr of opium extract was concealed among marble stones in a specially prepared hiding place.

Currently, a criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident under Article 246, Part 2 and Article 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code, and measures are being taken to apprehend the owner of the garage.

It should be noted that legislation provides for a sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment for committing crimes in both cases.
