Production and import of energy drinks may be banned in Kyrgyzstan

The issue of banning the production and import of energy drinks into Kyrgyzstan is currently under review. President Sadyr Japarov instructed the government to study this proposal within one month and determine the appropriate measures.

According to the head of state, excessive consumption of energy drinks can negatively affect human health, cause addiction, and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and kidney diseases. This, in turn, is increasing the state's healthcare expenditures.

According to the data provided by Japarov, the consumption of energy drinks in Kyrgyzstan in 2025 amounted to 54.2 million liters, or nearly 129 million cans. In the first half of 2026, consumption exceeded 36 million liters.

Last year, 25.3 million liters of energy drinks were produced in the country. A total of 28.4 million liters were imported from the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, and 1.2 million liters from other countries.

According to the President's preliminary calculations, if the production and import of energy drinks are banned, the state budget may lose about 1.5 billion soms in tax revenues.

«However, the health of the nation, citizens, and future generations cannot be measured by any money!» said Sadyr Japarov.

In accordance with the instruction, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan must consider the issue of banning the production and import of energy drinks within one month, and adopt appropriate regulatory measures within the framework of legislation within six months.

No ban on energy drinks has been introduced yet. The issue is expected to be considered by the government.
