In Tashkent, from the night of October 27 to October 28, air quality remained at an “unhealthy” level according to the international AQI index. At some observation points, “very unhealthy” indicators were recorded.
It is reported that this was caused by a drop in temperature, very weak winds, and the accumulation of air masses around the city. These conditions restricted the dispersion of pollutants, causing atmospheric emissions to remain trapped in the layer close to the ground.
Specialists from the National Center for Environmental Monitoring conducted instrumental measurements at night in the Yunusabad, Almazar, Yangihayot, Sergeli, and Yashnabad districts. At all points, the amount of PM2.5 corresponded to the “very unhealthy” category.
According to the national air quality index, the city's average indicator for PM2.5 was recorded at a “yellow” level, and for PM10 at an “orange” level.
According to forecasts, during the daytime hours on October 28, air quality in Tashkent is expected to be at an “unhealthy” level according to the international AQI, while the national index is expected to show mostly “yellow” and at times “orange” levels. In the evening hours, air quality may also remain “unhealthy”.
Experts recommend that children, the elderly, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as those suffering from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, avoid going outside in the evening and at night as much as possible. In necessary cases, people are asked to use protective masks, avoid staying outdoors for long periods, and keep windows closed at night.
