Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing his ex-wife in Namangan

In the Pop district of Namangan region, a man who tried to persuade his ex-wife to reconcile stabbed her three times in a kindergarten dormitory. The woman, who suffered severe bodily injuries, survived with the help of doctors. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

According to court documents reviewed by Daryo, the incident occurred on April 16, 2026, at one of the state preschool educational institutions in the district.

The 32-year-old B.A. came to the workplace of his ex-wife S.B., who worked as an assistant educator. They had married on the basis of a religious ceremony in 2023 and had one child. However, due to family disagreements, the woman went to her parents' house.

The man repeatedly asked his ex-wife to live together again, but the woman refused.

According to the court documents, on the morning of the incident, B.A. called his ex-wife and asked to meet. The woman said she was at work and that if he wanted to see their child, he could take him from home.

After that, the man came to the kindergarten. Upon seeing him, his ex-wife tried to run towards the children's dormitory. However, B.A. caught up with her, twisted her arm, and pushed her onto the bed. After his proposal to live together again was rejected, he stabbed the woman in the abdomen three times with a knife he had brought with him.

The injured woman later told her ex-husband that she agreed to live together. The man then went outside. Colleagues called an ambulance, and S.B. was taken to the hospital. Doctors saved her life.

In court, the victim stated that her health had improved and that she had no claims against the defendant. According to the kindergarten staff's testimonies, the children were in another room engaged in an activity at the time of the incident.

In court, B.A. stated that he had bought the knife at the bazaar for his son's birthday and initially planned to give it as a gift to his boss in Russia. According to his testimony, he argued with his ex-wife at the kindergarten over the issue of seeing his child and used the knife out of anger.

The Pop District Criminal Court found B.A. guilty under Article 25 and Part 1 of Article 97 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan — attempted intentional murder — and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment.
