Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Lebanon could face growing damage to its infrastructure and even lose territory if the government fails to fulfill its obligation to disarm Hezbollah.
According to the minister, pressure on Lebanon will continue to increase until the central demand — the disarmament of the movement — is met.
On the night of March 2, Hezbollah resumed active military operations against Israel following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), since the beginning of the month the group has launched about 1,000 rockets, shells, and drones toward Israeli territory.
In response, Israeli forces began intensive strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut and dozens of cities and settlements in southern and eastern Lebanon. Official figures indicate that 570 people have been killed and 1,444 injured, while around 800,000 Lebanese residents have been forced to flee their homes.
