In recent days, appeals and objections regarding the privatization of houses provided from the state housing stock to orphans and children left without parental care have been circulating on social networks. The National Agency for Social Protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued an official response regarding this situation.

As reported, until October 25, 2021, housing was allocated to this category of persons from the state housing stock on the basis of lease rights pursuant to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 164 of 2010.

According to Article 8 of the Housing Code, houses belonging to the targeted municipal housing fund are provided to socially vulnerable citizens on a rental basis without the right to privatization. The management of this fund falls under the authority of local hokimiyats.

The Agency noted that these houses are not on its balance sheet, and the authority to make decisions on the privatization of housing does not belong to the Agency either.

It was also stated that the procedure for privatizing the state housing stock is regulated by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 124 dated March 11, 2024.

It is noted that citizens who received housing on a rental basis can apply regarding the issue of housing privatization directly to the relevant district or city hokimiyat, as well as through the My.gov.uz portal.
