Issues related to accelerating transport flow, modernizing logistics infrastructure, and simplifying cargo transportation processes at the “Alat” border customs post, located on the state border between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, were discussed.

Today, Chairman of the Customs Committee A. Mavlonov, Minister of Transport I. Makhkamov, Chairman of the Committee on Roads J. Tursunov, and Chairman of “Uzsuvtaminot” JSC A. Suvonqulov inspected the post's activities and existing infrastructure capabilities.

It was reported that the flow of freight vehicles moving through the “Alat” customs post is increasing year by year. In the 10 months of the current year, more than 243 thousand vehicles moved through the post. This figure is 2.3 times more compared to the corresponding period of 2022.

Currently, up to 1,200 vehicles enter and exit through the post per day. This creates the necessity to improve the existing infrastructure and effectively manage the transport flow.

During the inspection, a number of proposals aimed at increasing throughput were put forward.

In particular, the issue of the Turkmen side abandoning the “trailer exchange mechanism” introduced during the pandemic and returning to the traditional international cargo transportation system was discussed. This could reduce redundant control processes and accelerate transport movement.

Also, the proposal to build a new, modern bridge with high throughput capacity in place of the technically outdated bridge built in 1978 over the “Yamonjar” canal, which connects the neutral territories of the two countries, was reviewed.

The proposed bridge is intended for the movement of at least two trucks in each direction. This is expected to serve to accelerate cargo transportation processes, reduce queues at the border, and create convenience for the movement of pedestrians and passenger cars.

The put-forward proposals will be studied by the relevant agencies, and their feasibility studies will be developed. It is planned to submit the substantiated proposals for high-level review.
