The relevant amendments are outlined in a new law signed by the President.

In Uzbekistan, children who have suffered from violence or witnessed violence will be provided with legal aid at the expense of the state. This is stipulated in the law signed by the President aimed at improving the system of protecting children from all forms of violence.

With this document, amendments and additions were made to the Law “On Free Legal Aid”. Accordingly, children who have suffered from violence or witnessed violence gain the right to receive legal aid at state expense from the moment they are involved in relevant procedural actions.

Also, based on the amendments made to the Criminal Procedure Code, measures will be taken to ensure the participation of a lawyer who provides legal aid at state expense for minor victims and witnesses in criminal cases related to sexual violence.

It was also established that in cases where a crime is committed against a minor by their parent, adoptive parent, guardian, trustee, or other relatives, a representative of the guardianship and trusteeship authority must participate in all procedural actions during the investigation and court process.

In addition, the law introduces an additional ground for terminating the employment contract with an employee of an educational organization who has been held liable for committing violence against a child. The law enters into force from the day of its official publication.
