The US is expanding cooperation in the field of critical minerals. What is Uzbekistan's role?

The strategic importance of critical minerals in the global economy is growing steadily. Artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, aviation, and the modern energy industry are directly dependent on these resources.

The US is expanding cooperation with Central Asia in order to diversify its mineral supply. This issue also held an important place at the C5+1 meetings held in Samarkand with the participation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

So, what opportunities does Uzbekistan have in this process?

Our country possesses important mineral resources such as tungsten, molybdenum, lithium, graphite, and germanium, along with a portfolio of over 100 projects.

Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, broad opportunities are being opened in Uzbekistan to create favorable conditions for foreign investors, attract modern technologies, and produce high value-added products.

In this process, the Uzbekistan Technological Metals Combine (TMC) is activating practical cooperation with international companies.

In particular, opportunities for financing investment projects worth $4.2 billion with the US DFC Corporation are being considered.

Furthermore, opportunities for the joint implementation of 5 projects worth $1.027 billion with Metallica Commodities, and 6 projects worth $29.4 million with Vast Resources, are being discussed.

Within the framework of C5+1 in Samarkand, TMC put cooperation issues with more than 25 foreign companies and organizations on the agenda.

One of the key initiatives is related to Metallica Commodities. TMC invited the company to establish a joint project at the «Future Metals Technopark» for extracting precious metals from industrial waste. The American side expressed interest in the possibilities of applying this technology throughout the entire Central Asian region.

Uzbekistan's main goal is not simply to export mineral resources, but to deeply process them and turn them into high value-added products.

Negotiations within the C5+1 framework have opened up important opportunities for developing new investments, advanced technologies, and international industrial cooperation in this direction.
